Bichectomy (removal of fatty tissue from the face)

Bichectomy surgery is a procedure in which excess fatty tissue is removed from the cheeks. This area of fat has the sole purpose of rounding the face, but due to some genetic circumstances, it is possible that the fatty bubble is too large and creates an unpleasant appearance for the patient.

The intervention is recommended for people:

• who consider that their face is too round;
• are bothered by the volume of their cheeks;
• want a more defined, more chiselled appearance of the face.

How is bichectomy performed?

The intervention is called “bichectomy” because it involves the removal of the fatty bubble of the Bichat. First, we will meet for a consultation to determine what areas you want to change and what we can do to achieve the desired result.

The procedure is performed through an incision located inside the oral cavity, so that no traces of any kind will remain on the patient’s skin. Under local anaesthesia, the incision is made and the fat bubble under the cheekbones is removed.

The whole process takes around 30-45 minutes, and the patient can resume their normal activity immediately after, with minimal discomfort.

How do I prepare for bichectomy?

In preparation for the operation, you must:

• Avoid taking aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs;
• Keep yourself very well hydrated.

What will happen after a bichectomy?

Following the intervention, the lower part of the face as well as the mouth will be inflamed and sensitive; fortunately, any possible bruising will occur inside the oral cavity.

For a few days, it will be necessary to follow a diet based on foods that are easier to chew, sleep with your head slightly elevated and rinse your mouth with a special substance (prescribed by me) several times a day.

Two weeks after the intervention, the inflammation will begin to disappear and you will be able to see the result of the bichectomy operation up to 6 months post-intervention.

The results are permanent, the only exception being after substantial weight gain.
