Labiaplasty – the most common form of vaginal rejuvenation

Labiaplasty surgery is a common procedure among women who want to rejuvenate their vulva. The intervention involves reducing the size of the labia minora, i.e. the two portions of skin located at the vaginal entrance.

This procedure is recommended for women who:

  • Experience problems caused by enlarged labia minora – for example: pain, irritation during intercourse or itching;
  • Want to rectify the asymmetry between the two labia;
  • Are not happy about the aspect of their vulva and want to improve it.

How is labiaplasty surgery performed?

The procedure is as simple as possible. First, we will meet for an initial consultation to determine what your expectations are and what we can do to make them a reality. Then, to make sure you’re ready for the procedure, you’ll do some blood tests to make sure all parameters are fine.

The labiaplasty operation is performed under local anaesthesia and takes about an hour. I will make two incisions, then remove the excess skin on each side. Afterwards, I close the incisions and explain what you need to do over the next few days to make sure the area is healing properly.

How do I prepare for the intervention?

Before the operation, it will be necessary to:

  • Avoid taking aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs;
  • Keep yourself very well hydrated.

What happens after the operation?

After labiaplasty, the anaesthesia will wear off and you will begin to feel a slight discomfort. If necessary, I will prescribe some painkillers – although this is extremely rare. You will need to keep the vulva area clean, wear only light and comfortable underwear, and apply a special cream as per my instructions.

After two weeks, we will meet again to remove the threads. After undergoing a labiaplasty you will need to wait between 4 and 6 weeks before having sexual intercourse.
